Sole Bath: Plunging from hot to cold temperature waters is a health regime that goes back thousands of years but probably most well known from the Swiss. Our pools at Grail Springs Wellness Retreat and Health Spa for Body Mind and Spirit have an added benefit because we have saturated the waters with Himalayan salt. 0ver 70% of our planet is covered with ocean. This water and salt solution embodies the essential energy for the creation of life. We have come to understand through the science of biophysics that the two combined have holistic qualities that can help us to maintain our health and prevent many ailments. The mix of the two is called ‘sole’, the Latin word for sun. Mythologically it means ‘liquid sunlight’, the materialization of the sun’s energy. The beauty of the pink salt that is mined from the Himalayan Mountains is that it is 100% pure and contains 84 natural elements found in and needed by the body and can be easily metabolized. This crystal salt is full of life.
Health Tip: A bath in ‘sole’ water (pronounded soley) can have the same affect as a three-day fast! When bathing on a new moon cycle, it will draw toxins out of the body. When bathing on the full moon cycle it will have a replenishing effect.
The pH Balanced Approach to Diet ~ The missing link for perfect health & perfect weight
"After seven years now of presenting a balanced acid/alkaline meal plan at Grail Springs Wellness Retreat and Health Spa for Body Mind and Spirit , I am convinced it is indeed THE missing link to weight management, health rejuvenation, healing and maintaining the highest-level of health and wellness for life. It was this approach to eating that was the final healing I needed to free me from my own debilitating illness. It's simply the most important key to disease prevention and the whole world needs to know about it." ~Madeleine Marentette, founder of Grail Springs Wellness Retreat and Health Spa.
Grail Springs Wellness Retreat and Health Spa for Body Mind and Spirit prescribes to the acid/alkaline ph balance approach to diet. I believe it saved me from a certain pre-mature death. It sounds drastic but it is true. This simple yet revelatory food philosophy speaks to our chemistry and nourishment through maintaining a proper pH balance in our body. We are chemical beings. Our food choices, supplements and beautiful natural gifts from Mother Earth can all help tremendously and easily to balance the body and mineralize at the same time.
Firstly, food is probably the one area where most people will have to make the biggest change and maybe have the most resistance. We get that. And seeing the list of the more potentially toxic and acidic foods will probably surprise and maybe disappoint because they are in most North Americans every day diet sometimes referred to as the SAD diet; Standard American Diet. SAD diet would consist of red meat, fast food, soda pop, refined sugar, baked goods, hydrogenated fats and coffee to name a few. Considered highly acidic, they create a pH imbalance and cause congestion in the colon, the leading cause of disease. Ailments begin with constipation, diarrhea and other bowel problems. Continued imbalance of the acid-alkaline state can eventuate health problems from inflammation, chronic fatigue, ulcers, back pain and the list goes on.
“Bacteria and disease love an acidic environment. Disease cannot grow in an alkaline environment!”

7.0 The Perfect Balance Explained
Your body is happiest in a pH balanced state of 7.0 (0.0 being most acidic and 14.0 being most alkaline). An excess of acidity in a person’s body over a long period of time would show up as inflammation, stiffness, tissue degeneration, water retention, itchy skin and more.
It’s not that acid forming foods are bad; they just have to be balanced out with alkalizing foods when it comes to our food consumption. We do need both because of the minerals they each provide. There are several interpretations and food charts out on the market. The rule of thumb is to eat 75 to 80% alkalizing foods to 20 to 25% acidic. In North American right now, it is the reverse of that! Most North Americans are eating 80% acidic foods and 20% alkaline foods. Obesity, heart failure, cancer, is all symptoms of unbalance diet.

#2 Cut out the '5 toxic whites': white sugar, white flour, white rice, white table salt, and dairy (goat milk products are fine in limited quantity)
#3 Absolutely eliminate red meat and soda pop altogether.
#4 Cut your coffee/caffeine intake to just one a day. Keep your evening glass of wine to just one a day and make it red.

Add hemp seeds to your salads, one of the best mineral supplements you can take. Oprah's Snack Tip ~ And we agree! Add blueberries to your grocery list. #7 Ten before ten. No way around it. Ten minutes of cardio before 10am each day is key.
#8 No eating after 7pm.
#9 Go on a detox program at the first of each spring and autumn.
#10 Lastly, be kind ~ to yourself and to others. Don't stress unnecessarily. Your body stops functioning properly when you are stressed out. Breathe deep, think about your choices, and more than anything, believe each problem has a solution. Seek, believe and ye shall find!

What are toxins?
Toxins are substances that have harmful effects on the body. They come from food, water, air, from chemicals used to grow and process food, coffee, sugar, pre-packaged foods and junk foods. The number of toxins entering your bodies is reaching unprecedented levels and their cumulative effect on our health is unknown. Toxins also originate from within the bodies regular metabolism and are produced by the mind in the form of unhealthy emotions.
Normally, a person can process these toxins in the liver, kidneys and other organs and eliminate them in the feces, urine, and sweat. Dehydration, lack of exercise, stress, anxiety, lack of dietary fibre and constipation, insufficient consumption of fresh vegetables and fruit, and the cumulative effect of chemicals in our food are just some of the common lifestyle factors that impair normal detoxification and cause toxins to hang around in our digestive, lymphatic, skin, and other places in our body where they can cause damage. Our menu is free of red meat, white sugar, white flour, white salt, soda, alcohol, coffee.

Life Coaching is about assisting you in achieving goals ~ for instance, having more balance and vitality in health and wellness, injecting more passion into your life or building your relationship or business.

Spring~fed Healing Waters at Grail Springs Wellness Retreat and Health Spa for Body Mind and Spirit
Grail Springs is a ‘Spa’ retreat in the truest and rarest sense of the word, originating from 14th century Belgium;
"a healing sanctuary located next to a curative spring water source."
Our lake is fed by hundreds of vigorous springs, is alkaline based which makes it extremely beneficial for detoxifying and purifying the body.
Magnetically charged by the ancient granite bedrocks below, these vital ‘alive’ waters are then naturally filtered, kept in its purest form, with no chemical added.

Walking our Sacred Labyrinth
"The ancient Labyrinth represents humankind's search for the core of Divinity"
Welcome to the Magical World of Labyrinths, the Universal Symbol of Transformation. The labyrinth was created in ancient times to represent humankind’s search for the core of divinity. The pattern is an archetypal form found all over the world. It dates back thousands of years. No one knows who created the original labyrinth form, but we do know from experience that embedded within each design is a pattern that guides us to our deepest inner being. Whether walked or traced in sand, the labyrinth pattern is a powerful tool for reflection, invocation, meditation, healing, bringing calm and a deeper knowledge of the Self.

"Unlike a maze whose intent it is to get us lost, the labyrinth is designed to get us found."
~unknown
Unlike a maze, a labyrinth has one linear path - that starts from the outer edge, moves into the heart or centre, and then back out again. It's a three part process. Through the act of trusting the path, of giving up conscious control of how things should go and being receptive to our inner state, we can be opened up to a whole new world. It seems that through the beautiful flow of their sacred patterns, labyrinths help us ground ourselves. Some people experience a state of timelessness and find this type of surrender particularly relaxing and refreshing.
Community of Labyrinths Around the World
In our present day we are experiencing a rediscovery of the labyrinth as the spiritual tool it was intended for. Many communities are coming together to construct labyrinths in their community parks. Spiritual centres are creating them for those on retreat. Hospitals are building permanent labyrinths for patients and staff. Cancer support groups use them for strength and finding one's way through difficult times.
In medieval times, the labyrinth became the symbol of the spiritual pilgrimage to the Holy City of Jerusalem not exclusive to any one religious order but to all of them whose centre resided there. This focused walk to the centre of the city was used for contemplation of those questions that they needed answers or resolve to. The answers were expected to come once they had reached their temple in the Holy City of God. After several days of rest, recuperation and preparation, they would make their journey back again, a mindful contemplation on how they would now implement their discoveries or realizations into their life, their family, their village, and their people.

Ancient Connections, the Oldest Rock in the World, and Blessings from a Buddhist Monk
Grail Springs Wellness Retreat and Health Spa for Body Mind and Spirit's labyrinth is designed after the inner five-circuits of the Chartres Cathedral labyrinth in France, built in 1201, one of the most famous labyrinths in the world and the one most replicated. Some interpretations of the circuits surrounding the centre are that they represent the solar system, the centre being the sun, and each circuit a representation of the power or attributes of the surrounding planets. Another is the human body, in particular the chakra system as taught through the different yoga schools.
In March of 2006, we were honored with a visit from Venerable Shenyen, a traveling monk who received his vows directly from the Dalai Lama. In an early morning ceremony while sitting on the snow in the middle of the labyrinth, a few of us were privy to an ancient Buddhist blessing for Grail Springs Wellness Retreat and Health Spa for Body Mind and Spirit.
A special note of interest
Most of the beautiful ancient rocks you'll see surrounding our labyrinth under the large pine trees at Grail Springs Wellness Retreat and Health Spa for Body Mind and Spirit were hand dug from the old wagon and foot path of the Heritage Trail. The Heritage Trail was the main trail that was used by both the Algonquin Indians and the founding settlers of this area hundreds of years ago. They were laid there to honor and remember all those who came before us. And the Heritage Trail just happens to be one of the land boundaries dividing the Grail Springs Spa property. The former owners claimed they found several tool and bone fragments in and around the waterfront area and in 1994, land owners across the lake tore down what was left of the old Spurr Lake Coach House. You can almost envision the beachfront and surrounding area as a perfect encampment where more than likely there had been lots of trading going on at the time.
And, if you explore some of the rocks in the labyrinth at Grail Springs you will find plant fossils and quartz crystals everywhere. The Bancroft area is famous for its great variety of minerals such as masses of magnetite, marble and granite, quartz crystal, gold, apatite, beryl, fluorite, talc and sodalite which can be found in displays all over the world, including the Smithsonian Institute. Princess Diana had her entire bathroom in her private residence done in blue sodalite from Bancroft. This region has been subject to many geological processes and has a complex mixture of different rock types that bring rockhounds from all over the world to its annual festival in August. The Highland region lies within the Canadian Shield, a northwesterly trending belt, roughly 400 kilometers wide and 2,000 kilometers long, extending from Lake Huron to the Labrador coast. The rock beneath us here at Grail Springs Wellness Retreat and Health Spa for Body Mind and Spirit is between 1.1 and 1.8 billion years old and has been subject to volcanic activity, glacial scouring, extreme heat and pressure, intense faulting and folding.
7 Steps to Creating Your Best Year Yet! ~ by Madeleine Marentette
The first full moon in December signifies the beginning of the Winter Solstice whereby thousands of people around the world begin a conscious process of inner self-reflection while also focusing on their vision for the upcoming year. For many, this process runs from the full moon before the Solstice (December 22nd ) until New Year's Day.
This practice goes back thousands of years when the Winter Solstice was one of the most important celebrations. For the Celts it marked the rebirth of the suns power, also seen as going from darkness into the light. It took root in the agricultural significance for their human survival, as well as spiritual significance. The two worlds, heaven and earth, were weaved as One. Hence, the Celtic knot.
Two decades ago I became familiar with this celebration and have been practicing it ever since. I have come to understand that solar astrology is the science of relationships between all living things within the universe. This has proven to be an amazing process in manifesting my own dreams and goals and recognizing my personal responsibility and relationship to the planet. We are significantly influenced by that which is present around us; weather, other people, world events, solar and planetary influences. How aware we are of these influences gives us a better handle on how to transform these influences into positive experiences in our life.
At the full moon in December, I set time aside to reflect and do an accounting of the year that has passed. I compare it with what I had written the year before. It never ceases to amaze me as to what has actualized, and am convinced that it speeds up the process and attracts opportunities towards me. Of course you have to align yourself with making it and allowing it to happen ~ in other words, you have to do the work.
A helpful tip...When I consider my aspirations for the New Year, I make sure I include aspirations for all of me... career, body, mind AND soul. Don't forget about your spiritual needs, the most important of all. If you are spiritually content and connected, the physical, the career, your relationships, they will get the boost they need to be fulfilled in a positive way as well.

Once you've completed even just one year, you will experience and see amazing things begin to unfold and you’ll wonder how it all happened. Through this wonderous process you will begin to feel a stronger connection with your surroundings. You'll begin to figure out how things work, and you will soon learn the keys how to have, do, or be anything you want!
Warm wishes of health, abundance and joy to you and yours!
JOIN ME FOR MY SPRING EQUINOX RETREAT AT GRAIL SPRINGS WELLNESS RETREAT AND HEALTH SPA FOR BODY, MINd AND SPIRIT. Learn first hand how to use Laws of the Universe to Manifest Success, Health & Happiness!

7 Simple STEPS to getting started:
• STEP 1: Purchase a journal and be sure this journal is only used for the purposes of manifesting your dreams and goals. Make it small enough that you can travel around with it, put in your purse, car or briefcase.
• STEP 2: Ask yourself…. Did I accomplish what I set out to do this year? What did I accomplish? And how well did I do it? (there is usually one major accomplishment that stands out plus many smaller ones)
• STEP 3: What did I learn? What do I have to be grateful for? These answers are full of little pearls of wisdom ~ if you don’t ask or recognize, you’ll miss acknowledging the greatness of what has happened. Gratitude and knowledge are both KEYS to your desired future.
• STEP 4: Next ~ look towards the new year. What’s your passion? Get clear about what you want. More than likely ideas have already been brewing in your mind. When you ask a direct question, just wait. You’ll get pretty specific answers and when it feels right, go with it. Tip ~ The response you get always match your level of passion!
• STEP 5: Make New Year's Eve a special night. At some point go sit somewhere, light some candles and get quiet. Collect your thoughts. Make your commitment to YOU. Say it out loud. Read your list of goals that you desire to accomplish. For me, it includes one BIG thing, and many smaller things. And when you are done, be done. Then go have a great time with your friends and family. Celebrate the passing of the old, and the welcoming of the new!
• STEP 6: Right after January 1st, begin to align yourself with your goals and dreams. In other words ~ what’s the plan? What do you require to start the process? Write it down. By March 21st you want to move into action mode. I call this 'Launch Day'. Keep your eyes on the outcome all year round. At the Summer Solstice, do a reassessment. I take this time to review my goals and see where I am at. Usually at this point, things are starting to gel. The seeds I planted in March are beginning to sprout.

I just had experts here at my home yesterday giving me an assessment of my 'dirty electricity', and me a personal lesson about the health consequences of microwave radiation exposure from wireless technologies - such as my wi-fi, my lap top, cell and my cordless home phones. These exposures are becoming better known as some of the hidden reasons behind illnesses - possibly 35% of the population may be affected. You may be sensitive to EMF's (Electric Magnetic Field) without realizing it. Here are some symptoms listed below:
* confusion, poor short term memory or 'brain fog'
* headaches, dizziness, numbness and even tremors
* nausea or general feeling of being unwell
* fatigue and weakness
* problems with vision and hearing, buzzing in ear
* depression, anxiety, mood disorders
* skin problems such as rashes, arthritic pain
Much more research and dialogue will come out in the next year on this subject.

Here are some of the things I have done to protect myself and my family and how you can get started as well:
* contact an EMF specialist to come and do an inspection/read of your home. You'll get a full demonstration. Cost: approx. $300 depending on the size of your home.
* specialist can install filters throughout your home to stop the free flow of EMF's into your environment. Cost per filter is approx $40. My 2100 sq ft home took 15 filters
* change all of your cordless phones in your home back to corded phones (yes I know - no more multi-tasking unless you buy a really long cord!)
* move your hard drive and wireless antennas as far away as possible, behind your desk. It is ideal if you can put a piece of wood between you and it.
* never buy a metal desk as this acts as a conduit for EMF's. Buy a wooden desk.
* purchase a piece of silver lined shielding fabric to throw over your hard drive (looks like a piece of white muslin, approx $100) http://www.safelivingtechnologies.com/
* use cell phone as little as possible
* purchase a keyboard that you can plug into your laptop, allowing you to distance yourself an extra foot or two away from it. You want to get your hands off the main keyboard belonging to the laptop.

Climate-Change Authority Advocates Vegetarianism ~ article by Heather Moore for Care2
It might take a while for Al Gore and other noted “environmentalists” in the U.S. to branch out from giving “safe” advice like "use energy-efficient light bulbs" and "recycle"—and American politicians may not even be all that quick to promote an official meat-free day—but one of the top climate chiefs in the U.K. is taking the lead. Lord Stern, the author of the 2006 Stern Review on global warming, recently told The Times, “Meat is a wasteful use of water and creates a lot of greenhouse gases. It puts enormous pressure on the world’s resources. A vegetarian diet is better.”
Amen to that! This issue will hopefully now be a key topic of discussion at the Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen in December. As The Times noted, Stern is in favor of a “successful deal” that will send the cost of meat and other foods that generate lots of greenhouse gases, soaring.
A recent World Watch Magazine article by Robert Goodland and Jeff Anhang indicates that the livestock sector is responsible for 51 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions each year. The article, Livestock and Climate Change, calls cows, chickens, and pigs “key actors” in climate change.
Many people are quick to point the finger at Hummers and power plants, but when researchers compared the amount of fossil fuel necessary to produce various foods, they found that switching to a vegan diet is even more effective in countering climate change than switching from a gas-guzzler to a hybrid.
If you measured power plants by CO2 alone, they would appear to emit more greenhouse-gas emissions than animal agriculture does. However, power plants don't generate energy for their own sake, but rather to provide power for industrial and consumer purposes—like operating factory farms.
In fact, the meat, egg, and dairy industries use enormous amounts of electricity from power plants to process feed crops; to provide ventilation, lighting, and heat for factory farms; to operate slaughterhouses and processing plants; and to refrigerate animals' flesh, eggs, and milk for transportation around the country. Overall, it takes 11 times as much fossil fuel to produce a gram of animal protein as it does to produce a gram of plant protein.
When responding to criticism that measures to tackle climate change are partly to blame for the rise in food and energy costs, Yvo de Boer, the head of the United Nations climate agency, said, "The best solution would be for us all to become vegetarians."
As I’ve mentioned before, other environmental experts are onboard with this idea, including Dr. Rajendra Pachauri, the chair of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, who implores people to have at least one meat-free day a week to help halt climate change, but ultimately to go vegetarian.
And now we can add Lord Stern to the list. While not a strict vegetarian himself, his views and actions will likely continue to evolve, just as he predicts that people’s attitudes will evolve until meat eating becomes unacceptable.
If I’m still alive when this happens, I’ll figure out how to do a backflip.
It's an Inside Job!: The Lymphatic System and WHY You Need to Care about IT
Article by Judy Taylor, Lymphatic and Emotional Release Specialist, Educator and Author of 'It's an Inside Job'
A healthy life depends on the circulation of the lymphatic system. It is our second circulatory system, FOUR TIMES LARGER THAN OUR BLOOD SYSTEM and the UNSUNG HERO OF THE IMMUNE SYSTEM. Lymphatic fluid is located in vessels that run parallel to our blood vessels, moving in an upward fashion, responsible for ridding the body of all debris including fats, toxins, infection, bacteria and viruses. Ultimately, the lymphatic system represents the flow of life. A healthy, always flowing system bolsters the body’s immune system, fights disease, and strengthens energy for daily life.
Unlike the blood vessels, which carry nutrients and oxygen to our cells through discrete vessels and remove waste products from the cells, the lymph system carries waste and toxic fluids AWAY from our cells, enhancing total health. However, this system has a serious build-in limitation because it does not have a pump to keep things moving. It must rely solely on good health habits of the person to function properly. When there are health challenges including mental and physical stress, poor nutrition, and lack of consistent exercise, the lymph system can get overloaded and become quite sluggish, thereby making our bodies and us tired and toxic. Toxins, which are not properly processed through the system, will then back up and store in lymph nodes throughout the body, negatively affecting our appearance, energy level and overall health. Correct maintenance and care of the lymphatic system is a major challenge in today’s hectic lifestyle.
When your lymphatic system is blocked or clogged, this creates a condition of stagnation, which promotes fatigue and ill health. Some of the most common symptoms include lumps, bumps, pain and swelling. Some causes of a blocked lymphatic system are due in part to stress, injuries, negative self judgment, lack of exercise, improper diet, and repressed communication. Basically every thing you do or don’t do and every thought you ever have either positively or negatively affects lymphatic well-being.
The lymphatic system can be your best friend or your worst enemy. You are worth taking good care of YOU!!! The rewards are GOOD HEALTH AND LOTS OF ENERGY...It's an inside job!
By keeping our lymphatic system unblocked, your immune system is strengthened, enhanced, and your overall energy is increased…ultimately saving your life. Bounce your way to health. Love, laugh and let go! You are worth it because you are special!
"By taking responsibility for our own well-being we conserve the resources we all share."
If you are planning a stay at Grail Springs Wellness Retreat and Health Spa for Body Mind and Spirit we recommend adding the Lymphatic Vital Chi Skin Brushing Treatment to your itinerary during your weekend retreat getaway!
Did you know? The lymph system is a large, mostly unfamiliar, but dynamic health partner. It consists of a complex set of organs and vessels designed to ward off infection, germs, inflammation and disease. It works in concert with your immune system, mind and emotions.
It channels its way throughout the body, carrying infection-fighting cells, filtering OUT fat and impurities. It is commonly known as the “garbage disposal” of your internal body.
· The Lymphatic System is critical to all systems in the body!
· It destroys harmful bacteria, fungi, fat and other toxic materials!
· The Lymphatic System has no pump and relies on the body’s movement and breath to function optimally!
· A Healthy Nervous System depends on a Healthy Lymph System!
· You have four times more lymph fluid than you have blood!

Why Meditation? ~ by Madeleine Marentette
"You have to know where you are at in order to know where you are going. Meditation opens up the All-Seeing-Eye, the eye being the most potent transmitter and perceiver of energy."
Practicing meditation is a prerequisite to self-discovery, peace of mind and optimum health. I made it my personal goal years ago to effectively integrate three types of meditation into my hectic life ~ every day. Believe it or not, I am here to tell you it is absolutely possible to practice meditation regardless of how busy your life is. If you have a demanding lifestyle like most people today, all the more reason you need to take up meditation. Luckily for me, I was highly motivated back in the early 80's due to a long-term health issue. Admittedly it took me a very long time, almost ten years, to realize that meditation is not something you squeeze in to your schedule like a conference call or a dentist appointment. Meditation is something you do while you are doing life, while you are on a conference call or lying in the dentist chair or join us at Grail Springs Wellness Retreat and Health Spa for Body Mind and Spirit for a weekend meditation retreat!
The above statement was my single greatest revelation ~ it changed my path and my future. I realized that meditation was simply a focused mind ~ a 'Eureka!' moment. The practice of observing life while living life is meditation. Seeing life wholly from this perspective is the point, creates the outcome of a steady mind, accountability, a calmer heart, less adverse reactions to people and situations out of your control. This reduces our stress level and literally saves us from ill-health and even pre-mature death. So now you may be asking, "what are the three types of meditation"? Here they are: Silent Meditation, Contemplative Meditation, Invocation Meditation. Each one represents a different type of brain function. Silence has a healing effect, contemplation of course is our creative and imaginative life, and invocation is what some might relate to as their prayer life. All of these play a significant role in the development of spiritual insight, the ultimate objective of our collective human race.

Every month I will be adding a meditation instruction to this page. My mission and hope is that you try it, like it and integrate it into your everyday, forever. I believe that the greatest of all human adventures is represented in the stories of the legendary quest for the Holy Grail ~ the cup to be discovered (uncovered) within the centre of our own Self. Where there is vision, will come spiritual insight. As I was reminded in one of my favorite books just today "Where there is no vision the people perish". Vision gives life, directs life, and realizes life.
I would like to invite you to join millions of others from around the world to a world meditation for even just a few minutes on the evenings of the full moon. Visit the Grail Springs World Meditation Project which describes a step-by-step invocation meditation, a simple yet very powerful image that will start you on your way. Enjoy the image. See you there. We always think BIG at Grail SpringsWellness Retreat and Health Spa for Body Mind and Spirit...Cheers!
Tips on Staying Healthy Through the Flu Season ~ by Chef Melissa Friesen
As the weather becomes colder and we stay indoors more, people often catch colds or other viruses. The cold and flu season can begin as early as October and usually ends sometime in April. While there is no way to cure the common cold or the flu, healthy alkaline eating and cooking healthy foods can help you avoid getting sick.
Alkaline Foods Boost the Immune System!
Researchers are finding positive links between immune function and components in food. If you or your kids seem to get one cold after another, eat plenty of alkaline immune-boosting foods and by cooking healthy foods for overall health and wellness.
Garlic boosts the immune system, increasing resistance to infection and stress. To get the immune power from garlic, crush the cloves with the flat side of a knife before adding them to your food. This releases the garlic juice, which has great immune properties.
Yogurt made with organic goat milk contains probiotics, beneficial bacterial with immune-boosting benefits. Look for the “live active culture” seal, which indicates that probiotics have been added.
Vitamin C found in citrus fruits such as oranges & dark leafy greens such as collards, kale, broccoli and cabbage will also help the body's immune system.
Zinc which is found in beans, brown rice and whole grains plays an important role in the proper functioning of the immune system in the body.

More foods that heal...
Fresh ginger root can help you when you are sick by inducing sweating and decreasing nausea and diarrhea. Make ginger tea by grating one ounce of fresh ginger in a pint of water. Cover and simmer for 10 minutes. Add lemon and honey to taste.
Alkalizing Vegetable Soup and warm beverages, like those from a broth, increase the flow of nasal secretions, helping alleviate cold symptoms. Of course, the taste and wonderful aroma of Vegetable soup & broths may be an important part of the beneficial effects.
Healthy eating during cold and flu season means getting the daily requirement of essential vitamins and minerals by eating a balanced diet that contains a variety of wholesome, alkalizing foods.
Did you know that garlic, onions or dahlias have a long chain polysaccharide (type of sugar molecule) that blocks the cold virus in its tracks?
Thalassotherapy ~ A 5000 year old secret for health and healing
Thalassotherapy is an ancient healing treatment dating back 5000 years and is based on the natural healing properties of seawater. The word itself was coined in 19th century France from the Greek "thalassa" meaning sea or sea goddess and "therapeia" meaning healing. In the mid 1800’s royalty, along with the rich & famous of the time would travel to France to ‘take to the waters’ as it was known, experiencing a warmed ocean water bath with raw seaweed found in abundance off the shores of France.
Today, those healing ocean water therapies can be experienced at Grail Springs Wellness Retreat and Health Spa for the Body Mind and Spirit with our thalassotherapy facial, foot & body treatments offering raw & certified organic seaweed skin & body care products from Seaflora’s ocean garden in the cool & clean Pacific Ocean. Thalassotherapy is used as a balancing treatment which benefits the connection between mind & body while focusing the attention on well being & relaxation. Many positive benefits include reduced stress, reduced inflammation, reduced muscle soreness, mineral absorption which helps relieve chronic conditions including arthritis, psoriasis & eczema.
How It Works:
Thalassotherapy offers an effective and natural way to increase blood circulation and thereby reduce inflammation by moving toxins out quickly into the lymphatic system. Trying to maintain balance in our modern world can be exasperated by poor diet, stress and pollution. Essential minerals, found in seaweeds at 10-20X the concentrations of land-based vegetation, including iron, magnesium, sodium, potassium, iodine, phosphorus and calcium are readily absorbed directly through the skin into the bloodstream without digestion. Since the chemical make-up of seawater & seaweeds is so similar to that of our own blood plasma, these essential trace minerals help the body to assimilate the large concentrations of vitamins, amino acids, & polysaccharide sugars found in seaweed thereby to balancing our own interior ocean helping to maintain a healthy alkaline pH. Not only is there increased in blood circulation and reduced inflammation, but also has beneficial effects upon the pores of the skin such as firming, toning and moisturizing. Thalassotherapy also helps to detoxify by increasing lymphatic drainage and bind to heavy metal toxins like cadmium, mercury and lead and radioactive materials including Strontium-90.
The Benefits of Thalassotherapy:
Increasingly, people are turning to thalassotherapy for its anti-aging treatments. It has become a favorite treatment for cellulite reduction both for its effectiveness as well as its calming approach to mind/body balancing. The causes of cellulite are generally attributed to poor blood circulation and a build-up of toxins, so an overall thalassotherapy treatment can release these agents while providing other benefits. Those clients dealing with chronic inflammation, pain, arthritis, eczema, psoriasis or anemia, will benefit greatly.

Tips for Detoxing from a Hangover!
Well someone just had to ask! So we had to go find out. And here is what our experts are saying:
Number one tip before you even start drinking:
Drink at least 6 to 8 glasses of water the day of the big night. It helps to be fully hydrated. Absolutely eat a meal high in alkaline. Alcohol is highly acidic. Take some supplement life B-complex and Vitamin C to help break down the alcohol in the body.
Number two tip while you are drinking:
Consume glass of water after each alcoholic beverage. Avoid bubbly drinks like champagne or soda. Carbonated drinks speed up alcohol absorption. And btw – women’s bodies are less able to break down alcohol then men. Finally, drink a large glass of water before going to bed and add a squeeze of lemon to reduce the acidity.
Number three tip the morning after:
Drink lots of water with lemon and eat as much fruits and vegetables as you can as they help to eliminate the alcohol in the body. Take lots of vitamins. Avoid tea or coffee as these will dehydrate, the opposite of what we want. Eat a healthy breakfast first thing like some muesli topped with yogurt, a sliced banana and some honey. For lunch and dinner it would be recommended to make some brown rice and continue to eat lots of greens, vegetables and nuts throughout your day. And when you are feeling up to it, get those sneakers on and go for a nice long walk in the park. Breathe deep to purge those toxins out. End the day with relaxing warm bath in Himalayan Salts.
7 Steps to Creating Your Best Year Yet! ~ by Madeleine Marentette

• STEP 7: Take few minutes at the beginning of each day to review how you are doing. It will bring forth new ideas to act upon. Write these in your journal for the next Winter Solstice.
